Why it works on some photos and not others
A 3D cartoon style exaggerates structure, so it needs structure to exaggerate. A front-facing photo in soft daylight, with your whole face visible, gives the cleanest result — the filter can push the eyes, round the cheeks and reshape the jaw while keeping you recognisable.
Results get muddy when the source photo fights the effect: harsh side lighting, extreme camera angles, sunglasses, hair across the face, or a beauty filter that has already smoothed away the features the model needs. Group photos are also weaker, since the filter works best with one clear face in frame.
